About the Upgrade

We replace the mic's stock capsule (a 22mm small-diameter model with surprisingly not-smooth response that takes EQ poorly) with a true 34mm large-diaphragm, gold-plated capsule. The new capsule has higher output, lower noise, and a significantly more musical frequency response.

We replace the mic's circuit with a hand-built custom variant on the classic Schoeps design. Our circuit replaces the mic's HPF switch with a 3-way polar pattern switch. The switchable pad feature is retained. The new circuit incorporates more than a decade's worth of optimizations and improvements; it is implemented entirely with premium components.

Be aware that the MXL/Monoprice mic body shows icons for the high-pass filter switch. After the upgrade, this switch is a 3-position polar pattern switch. We are not able to paint or engrave new switch markings on the mic body. See our S3 series microphones if you prefer to have correct labeling for the pattern switch.

When you send your MXL 770 or Monoprice 600800 to us, be sure to note your choice of large-diaphragm capsule on the service request form.

Cost

Included in the purchase of this MXL 770 upgrade service: build and installation of the "TL3" circuit into your microphone, installation of our RK-12, RK-47, RK-87 capsule into your microphone. All parts and labor for the build and installation, any necessary chassis machining, circuit wiring, burn-in, and QC are included. Return shipping in the United States is included. You would ship your compatible microphone to us so that we can perform the upgrade.

Compatibility

This upgrade is compatible with the MXL 770 and Monoprice 600800.

It is not compatible with the 990S or any other make or model of  microphone.
